The Altrincham Electric Railway Preservation Society (AERPS) was formed in 1970 to save some of the MSJ&AR Altrincham Electric rolling stock from the 1931 electrification. This stock was replaced by the newer 25kV ac units in May 1971. AERPS also exists to gather and preserve other items connected with the MSJ&AR and to foster a general interest in railways in the area of the line and elsewhere.
By joining the AERPS you can help preserve two historic MSJ&AR coaches; further information on the Coaches page. The Society is a Registered Charity (No. 1093098), and a corporate member of the Midland Railway Trust.
AERPS presents the Winter Lecture Series, monthly from October to April, a series of lectures on railway and related topics. They are held at the Altrincham Methodist Church Hall.
The Society also arranges coach trips and social events. Its web site is at www.altrinchamelectric.org.uk and it has a Facebook page.
Members receive the Society’s journal Live Wires, free admission to the Winter Lecture Series and the opportunity to take part in all AERPS activities.
At the Midland Railway-Butterley, on non event days, half price travel on production of your valid AERPS membership card.
